Santini Australia and The Dementia Project, a not-for-profit charity have joined forces to help shine a light on dementia, the second leading cause of death in Australia. Designed locally and handmade with Santini's high-quality fabrics, this special edition jersey was created to spark conversations. The incredibly unique kit pattern is taken from brain scans of someone with dementia.
“We want this jersey to be a talking point, one that helps to raise awareness and increase knowledge about the truly devastating nature that dementia has on individuals and their families. The common perception is that it’s a normal part of ageing, this is definitely not the case and people as young as 30 can be impacted.”- Nick Locandro, Founder of the Dementia Project.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the Santini x Dementia Project special edition will be donated directly to the Dementia Project, which will be used to fund grass roots initiatives to make towns and small business more dementia friendly.
Nick Locandro, Founder of the Dementia Project first learnt about early onset dementia when his father was diagnosed at just 54 years young.
“Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia. The brutal and devasting impacts of dementia can often be overlooked and underestimated. It doesn’t always have visible cues that make it obvious someone is suffering with dementia, and this is why it's important we give it a face. We need to create more awareness and understanding so that we can help those who suffer from it, experience their lives in the best way possible. It's about being patient, kind and understanding, helping to create a dementia-friendly community."
