Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best road cycling rain jacket?

Assuming for most of you the rain also comes with cold temperatures, we recommend the following features for a cycling rain jacket:

Waterproof - this one is self-explanatory! Look for material that will bead off water from the outside and wick it away from the inside. Just because it’s wet doesn’t mean you don’t sweat.

Dropped tail - you want to minimise any cold wind on your back so look for a design with a slightly lower behind.

Collar - keep the rain drops and chilly winds off your chest with a close-fitting neck collar that you can zip right up in the worst of the weather.

Zipper - speaking of zips, you want one at the front that you can pull up and down depending on what the weather (and your body heat) is doing.

Reflective panels - with rain often comes compromised visibility.

What jacket do you need to have for a road bike?

Regardless of the type of riding you do, some features are universal. For instance, windproof, waterproof, thermal regulation, moisture-wicking and generous pockets are all the hallmarks of a good women’s or men’s cycling jacket. However, for road riding specifically, we would encourage you to also consider aerodynamics. Look for form-fitting cuts that keep close to the body and won’t grab the air and create drag.
